Doug Mahoney at the blogsite toolsnob.com is a longtime Makita user. So when he mentioned that his old Makita sander (the same one he's been using since he started his contracting career) took a dirt-nap, we took it upon ourselves to send him a new 5" Random Orbit Sander (BO5041K).
Today at toolsnob.com, Doug let his followers know what he thinks of his new Makita sander. After getting familar with the BO5041K's improved ergonomics and adjustable side-handle, he liked just about everything including the speed control dial and the 4,000 to 12,000 OPM. And you'll have to take our word for it on this one, but off-line he told us the BO5041K was "one bad-ass of a tool." We couldn't have said it better.
Power and Convenience
The BO5041K features a Makita-built 3.0 AMP motor with oversized sealed ball bearing construction for longer tool life. The variable speed control dial (4,000 – 12,000 OPM) allows the user to match the sanding speed to the material, with a large two-finger trigger switch with conveniently located lock-on button for continuous use and increased operator comfort. The large 1/8" random orbit action delivers fast and smooth sanding and a swirl-free finish, with a pad control system for controlled pad speed upon startup.
