POST AND MACCACHREN GET 7TH PLACE AT SCORE TERRIBLE'S PRIMM 300 BUT BEAT POINTS LEADER B.J. BALDWIN AND HOPEFULLY GAIN SOME GROUND IN THE POINTS STANDINGS
Primm NV. September 6, 2008 – Starting off 3rd out of all of the Trophy Trucks, Rockstar Makita Riviera Racing driver Mark Post shot to the front of the pack immediately. The early lead was promising and it looked like as long as he could hold off the SCORE 2008 points leader B.J. Baldwin we would win the 288 mile race and gain ground on B.J. and maybe even move into the top spot in the standings. Unfortunately that wasn’t exactly the case. After the Rockstar Makita Riviera Racing team switched drivers, the new driver Rob MacCachren noticed water spraying on to him and immediately turned around and went back to the pit he was closest to.
MacCachren said: “When I got in the truck, as soon as I took off I started getting water on the visor, on my shield. I said, ‘you know what, it’s a long way from Pit C to the finish, about 30 miles or so.’ So I figured it was best for us to stop. We went back to the pit and got everything checked out. We figured something in the engine was leaking water, so we put some engine sealer in there, and it held on really well. It’s a mystery what happened and why it was leaking water”.
This unfortunate malfunction allowed many trophy truck drivers to pass Rob including B.J. Baldwin. Once back on the road Rob MacCachren was making a strong push to gain position on as many drivers as he could when luckily B.J. Baldwin had transmission problems which gave Rob the opportunity to gain an entire lap lead on B.J. Rob was able to gain some ground on the rest of the competition and ended up finishing 7th.
Rob said, “We lost the race because of the water leak. We were still in the points, trying to win the Trophy-Truck points, so we just cruised. It was rough; a lot of rocks, a lot of flat tires.”
B.J. Baldwin finished in 10th , before the Primm 300 B.J. was 21 points ahead of Rob and Mark, they are still waiting for the official standings and they are hoping that lead has been diminished to almost nothing. On November 19 – 22, Mark Post and Rob MacCachren will be battling B.J. Baldwin and the rest of the Trophy Trucks for the Championship at the final race of the SCORE 2008 season, the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
