Giovani is the son of retired Brazilian football player Gerardo dos Santos, better known as "Zizinho", who played for the Mexican soccer clubs American and Leon.
In the U-20 World Cup Qualifying round he scored twice; once against St. Kitts and Nevis.
During the summer of 2007, Giovani was once again invited to join Barcelona's senior squad on their pre-season tour.
Giovani's future at FC Barcelona looks promising as he has stated that he has never thought about leaving the club and hopes to remain there for many years to come, despite many interests from English Premiere Clubs such as Manchester City.
